Established in 1920 in the comune of Sassuolo in Emilia-Romagna, Unione Sportiva Sassuolo Calcio is known as U.S. Sassuolo or just “Sassuolo.” The Neroverdi (the black and greens) have been wearing their signature color combo since 1921 thanks to a kit loan from the English team Lancaster Rovers.
Sassuolo is one of only a few teams to have played in Serie A without belonging to a provincial capital city (see also Empoli). They play their matches at Mapei Stadium – Città del Tricolore in Reggio Emilia, a stadium that they share with local squad Reggiana.
