Hellas Verona FC—often just “Hellas”—was founded in 1903 and plays its home matches at Stadio Marcantonio Bentegodi in Verona.
Hellas Verona’s most recent intense rivalry was with local club Chievo Verona (which was expelled from Serie B and other competitions in 2021 due to financial problems). Hellas-Chievo duels—always held at the Bentegodi—formed the “Derby della Scala,” named after the powerful della Scala family (Scaliger) that ruled Verona for more than a century during the Middle Ages.
Fun fact: Hellas Verona’s supporters are often called “Scaligeri” and the club logo features a ladder (scala), which was also on the crest of the della Scala family.
