Since 1997, historians, architects, archeologists and other scholars from the University of Virginia and UCLA have been working on a digital reconstruction project that allows ancient history buffs to explore the wonders of Rome, including the Colosseum and the Forum.

Rome Reborn, a digital model of Rome within the Aurelian Walls, is one of the most comprehensive representations of the ancient city ever assembled. Using either an internet browser or a VR headset, viewers can virtually visit more than 7,000 ancient Roman buildings in detail. Featured projects include a “flight” over Ancient Rome and a tour of the Roman Forum.

Developers at Rome Reborn are always adding new details to their app and making adjustments when archeologists make new discoveries. So check back often to see Rome Reborn, again and again.
