Italy’s love affair with coffee is evident in its bustling cafés in cities—Rome, Trieste, Turin—and small towns up and down the peninsula. Cafe culture is also perpetuated by Italy’s iconic coffee brands like Illy and Lavazza.

Are you an espresso aficionado or a cappuccino chooser? Here is where you’ll find more posts about Italian coffee and links to some of my favorite products.

Italian coffee cities

Rome. One of the most famous cafés in Rome is Sant’Eustachio Il Caffè, established in 1938.

Florence. Among the notable cafés in Florence is Caffè Gilli, dating back to 1733. Located in the historic Piazza della Repubblica, it has long been a meeting place for intellectuals, artists, and locals.

Milan. Italy’s fashion capital needs constant shots of espresso to keep up with its frenetic pace. For a relaxing, sit-down sip, head to the Navigli District.

Naples. One of the city’s most famous cafés is Caffè Gambrinus, founded in 1860. It has served as a meeting place for artists, writers, and musicians throughout history. In Naples, the coffee brand that reigns supreme is Caffè Kimbo, celebrated for its Neapolitan espresso traditions and commitment to quality.

Turin. Turin, a city in northern Italy, is known for its elegant cafés and refined coffee culture. Among its iconic establishments is Caffè Al Bicerin, founded in 1763. This historic café is famous for its namesake beverage, Bicerin, a layered drink of espresso, chocolate, and cream. The most popular coffee brand in Turin is Caffè Vergnano, which originated in the city and continues to epitomize Turin’s coffee heritage.
