In my experience, the locals are unforgiving of any and everyone. ;-) As far as driving, it will certainly be more difficult in the city centers, where you'll encounter congestion, traffic restrictions, and agressive drivers. The winding country roads don't usually pose much of a problem for foreigners, as far as other drivers are concerned. Just be mindful of traffic signs (Slow Travel Italy has a good primer at http://www.slowtrav.com/italy/road_signs/index.htm).

I checked the sites you provided above, but after doing some more research I decide to stay with <a href="http://callineurope.com/?utm_source=FOR&utm_medium=WebCom&utm_campaign=italofile" rel="nofollow">CallinEurope</a>.
The rates they offer look more competitive compared to few sources I verified. And I won't have to pay any monthly fees and will be able to reroute my US number.

I know it's crazy, but we were thinking of heading to Rome this weekend from Naples. I'm not sure I can hack a trip to the beach with the rest of gli italiani! Thanks for the heads up on what's on. I'm interested in that Vietnam photo collection! - Karen

I was wondering how save it is on the roads, I mean driving yourself, since we were thinking of hiring a car on our trip to Italy, but we’re not very experienced drivers and worry about windy country roads, or busy traffic. Are the locals unforgiving of clueless tourists behind the wheel?

In the spirit of not "playing cell phone favorites" I´d like to add the company www.phonerentalusa.com which, compared to the ones you posted has way better rates for postpaid service. The companies you include all work with pre paid or call back services to offer free incoming calls in more than 1 country....

Keith,

Perhaps you're right. But I think that a lot of travelers to Italy don't even know about venere.com. Perhaps because of venere's link-up through Expedia, less internet-savvy travelers will be able to find and book more Italy hotels than they would have previously. I guess we'll see...

I was dismayed to read that Venere.com had sold out to Expedia. I think that that will mean less competition for consumers.
